Corporate Philosophy
Pacific LightNet acknowledges and embraces its role as an involved corporate citizen
and community leader. The company is committed to behaving ethically and to contributing
to economic development while improving the quality of life of its workforce, their families,
the local community and society at large.
Support Offered
Pacific LightNet invests in its community by encouraging employee involvement in community
organizations, supporting executive board membership, donating in-kind gifts, and contributing
funds directly to non-profit organizations through sponsorships and direct grants.
Organizations Supported
Pacific LightNet supports charitable programs and activities that support the well-being and
quality of life for our employees and invest in communities throughout the state of Hawaii.
Pacific LightNet favors organizations that have well-established programs but is interested in
new efforts that address compelling, community-wide needs in an innovative fashion.
Pacific LightNet recognizes the breadth of worthwhile organizations but has chosen to focus its
support on organizations working in the following fields:
Education
Health
Human Services
While contributions and assistance may be made to worthwhile organizations not operating in the
above mentioned fields, this will be done on an exception basis.
Support Considerations
When considering requests for funding, Pacific LightNet gives preference to programs that:
Provide the majority of their benefits to residents of the state of Hawaii;
Demonstrate a commitment to education, health, or human services;
Demonstrate involvement by Pacific LightNet employees.
To be considered for support, an organization must be recognized by the IRS as a 501[c]3
nonprofit entity serving the state of Hawaii.
Philanthropic grants are given to any organization only once in a fiscal year.
Approval of a request for contribution in a prior year does not ensure approval of the
request for contribution in any subsequent year. Factors affecting the approval process
include the available budget, the committees guidelines, and the objective of supporting
a range of organizations within the target areas of support.
The following organizations, programs, and activities are ineligible for consideration:
Religious organizations, except religiously-sponsored service organizations that
otherwise meet all criteria and whose programs serve the general public without discrimination;
Organizations that discriminate on the basis of race, gender, creed, religion,
national origin, or sexual orientation;
Private foundations;
Individuals;
Labor organizations;
Fraternal organizations;
Programs characterized by deficit spending or debt liquidation.
